Dentures are removable appliances used to replace one or more missing teeth. They are commonly used to support oral function and appearance and may be suitable for patients seeking a non-surgical tooth replacement option.
Across Smile On Clinics, dentures are custom-made based on individual clinical needs. Some dentures may be manufactured locally through Smile On Lab on the Central Coast using a range of dental materials.

Potential Benefits of Dentures
Dentures may assist with:
Appearance
Replacing missing teeth may help support facial structure and overall appearance.
Chewing and Eating
Dentures can assist with chewing function, which plays a role in nutrition and digestion.
Speech
Replacing missing teeth may help support clearer speech in some cases.
Facial Support
Dentures can provide support for the lips and cheeks.
Confidence and Daily Function
For some patients, replacing missing teeth may support confidence in social situations and everyday activities such as speaking and eating.
Tooth Position (Partial Dentures)
Partial dentures may help maintain the position of remaining natural teeth.
Accessibility
Dentures may be a suitable option for patients seeking a removable alternative to other tooth replacement treatments.
Types of Dentures
Dentures can be classified into several types depending on individual needs.
1. Complete Dentures
Used when all teeth in the upper or lower jaw are missing.
Immediate Dentures
Inserted soon after tooth removal. Adjustments may be required as healing occurs.
Conventional Dentures
Placed after the gums have healed following tooth removal.
2. Implant Retained Dentures
These dentures are connected to dental implants to provide additional stability in suitable cases.
Complete dentures, particularly in the lower jaw, may have some movement. Implant-retained options may provide increased stability for selected patients. Suitability depends on clinical assessment.
3. Partial Dentures
Used when some natural teeth remain. Partial dentures attach to existing teeth and may assist in maintaining tooth position and filling gaps.
Considerations
Dentures may require a period of adjustment. Ongoing care and maintenance are important, and adjustments or relining may be needed over time as the mouth changes.
Your clinician will discuss whether dentures or alternative treatment options are appropriate based on your individual needs.
